エスペラントの接続詞の用法は英語と同じです。

apenau~(no sooner ... than), au~(or), c^ar(because), do(so), dum(while), kaj(and), ke(that), kvankam(though), kvazau~(as if), nek(neither), ol(than), se(if), sed(but), tamen(however)

Apenau~ li revenis hejmen, la pluvo c^esis. (No sooner had he gotten home than it stopped raining.)

C^u vi trinkas viskion au~ brandon? (Do you drink whisky or brandy?)

"Kial vi ne venis hierau~?" "C^ar mi estis tro okupita."
("Why didn't you come yesterday?" "Because I was too busy.")

Mi estis tre laca, do mi iris hejmen frue. (I was very tired, so I went home early.)

Ni parolis dum ni mang^is. (We talked while we ate.)

Akio kaj Haruo estas fratoj. (Akio and Haruo are brothers.)

Mi sciis ke la juvelo estas falsa. (I knew that the jewel was false.)

(注1) 英語の that と違って, ke は省略することができません。

(注2) 名詞節の場合, 時制の一致は起こりません。

Kvankam g^i estis peniga laboro, mi tamen g^uis g^in. (Though it was hard work, I enjoyed it.)

(注) この tamen は kvankam と一緒に使われて「けれども」という意味を表す副詞です。

Li parolas kvazau~ li scius c^ion. (He taks as if he knew everything.)

Mi ne vidis g^in, kaj nek s^i. (I didn't see it, and neither did she.)

Ni elektis nek lin nek s^in. (We chose neither him nor her.)

Petro estas pli alta ol sia patro. (Peter is taller than his father.)

Li povas kuri pli rapide ol mi. (He can run faster than I.)

Se vi venos al mi, alportu la libron. (If you come to me, bring the book.)

Se mi scius lian adreson, mi povus skribi al li. (If I knew his address, I could write to him.)

Li kuris rapide, sed li ne povis kapti la hundon. (He ran fast, but he couldn't catch the dog.)

La vojo estis ne nur mallarg^a, sed ankau~ homplena. (The road was not only narrow, but also crowded.)

Li ne volis iri; li tamen iris. (He didn't want to go; he, however, went.)

(注) tamen は kvankam と一緒に使って「(〜にもかかわらず)しかし」という意味の副詞としての働きもあります。
